i know i asked if anyone had any info on this a short ways back but don't remember getting much response on the new vpp stuff from santa cruz and intense.

my information is that, (via MB Action)
"There were two guys that worked it out: James Klassen was the engineer that designed the linkage and Jamie Calon was the mountain biker who molded the project into a system that would operate on an off-road bicycle. Outland Technologies owned the patents. There were originally two patents that covered the axle paths and linkage configurations. A third patent was recently added to include a one-piece swingarm to reduce the VPP’s complexity"

Santa Cruz reinitiated the project from a 1995 design and gave/sold the rights to use the design to Intense - even though competitors, thought it necessary to enhance the sport.  Disc brakes are highly recommended due to brake jacking issues with v brakes.

i've been a bit fascinated by the intense look and design compared to the santa cruz - especially the new evp 5 point 5 model with 5.5 inches of travel in lieu of the 4 on the spyder.  the disadvantage to the intense design is susceptibility to mud packing in the bracing around the rear wheel which might also limit tire size.  literature claims that the concept can go 8 - 10 inches of travel with little to no unwanted 'bob' if properly tuned - combined with spv and the like technology - - - - - yada yada yada.

anyway, this floating pivot point being higher than the chainline keeps the bike stiff when pedal pressure is applied (an advancement of girvins 'dig in') and i'm sure it's a matter of time before it's user tunable.

i know it's a little off topic on our own needs but i do enjoy looking and other technology (saw an amp front fork in supergo's repair line yesterday and was considering the diffs 'tween that and the crosslink) -

Have you checked out the highly rated Scott Genius vpp system with 3 shock setting that you can set using a thumbshifter on the bars or the Marin's highly rated yet very simple vvp design (designed by Jon whyte ex F1 sus designer for Benneton driven by a certain M.Schumacher) with lifetime guarantee on all bearings, Simon

wow - i must be living in a very small world (not knowing all that is out there)

very good stuff - all of it - thank you and i'll be spending some time reviewing it all.

i di forget to mention that the local supergos are LOADED with k2 closeouts of all kinds

monkeys - bumpy, disco, brass (?) etc. for 6-700 dollars - full suspension, new bikes, warrantees etc. -
if i did not own a bike i'd snag one of these quick.
