WHATS UP FELLA'S WELLI AM NEW HERE BUT AN VETERAN AT MOUTAIN BIKING,ANYWAYS I HAVE A CHANCE TO PICK UP A NEW IN THE BOX PROFLEX 4500/K2.WHAT IS IT WORTH AND WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO GET PARTS TO BUILD HER UP....IS IT EVEN WORTH PICKING UP.THANKS LOOKING FORWARD TO HEAR FROM ALL YA....

  8)there are a lot of owners of that model here, that are huge fans of the frame. first, what's the price and does it come with any other parts?
second, there are a variety of places to get build parts. some vendors offer build kits or you just put together your own kit from various sources.
it is a very durable frame that can almost do it all. it's most popular version is as a trailbike. it's a little heavy for xc and not designed for full-on downhill.
you have some options for the rear shock and you have to fabricate a disc adapter or buy a ready-made one from rdi.
to have rear discs.
old proflexer is probably the best resource, since he owns more carbons than he should!

well your gonna  laugh at me but 100$ i am sure its worth it ay.its brand new in the box a buddy of mine uncle use to work at k2 so he new i used to be into bikes which i had a raven (cannondale) a couple of years ago and got out of the scene but i would love to get back into it. thanks alot dan ill get in touch with old proflexer and pick his brain a little .

hahahaha! okay let me rephrase the question,is the frame good enough to build up or should i look for some thing newer.how old is this style frame (2001)?
i know its carbon fibre so it must be strong.i sam yellow0z3 4500 its real nice ....anyone else on here have some pics

if it's a 4500, it was built in '98 to early '99.
what type of riding are you going to be doing. it's an older design, but with all the new stable platform shocks coming out, you can update the ride. santa cruz is still using the same old single pivot on some of their bikes.

nice....ill prolly be doing a bunch of everything trails ,downhill,cross country nothing competeive.just goofing around with it.i guess it will be fine for me.now i guess there is a limited aftermarket for these frames or i can slap any rear and front suspensin on?as far as derailers is xtr still the best or do i look for something else.

dan do you know of amy stores who have some good deals on components....

the best buys are prolly on the net but it depends if you feel if you can build the bike up yourself,,otherwise you may want to work through a local shop...there is nothing special about components for your 4500 or oz...I think there is a chainline issue with some frames..in my opinion there are two components that make a world of difference on a bike.....get a truly light and  strong wheelset  and some good(prolly disc) brakes.......everything else can be LX type quality....and keep your shifters and rear cluster from the same manufacturer...

On the net for best deals (my favourite www.chainreactioncycles.com but I'm UK based)but make sure you know what you want first, check with others first if any doubts about a product before purchasing,you can ask advice here about a product or for a good online retailer, there very helpfull on this site and won't steer you wrong, good luck Simon. Both are good and both are different.  



Universalcycles was my favorite because they had a shop in my town at one time, and I could pick up locally.  They have a large selection including complete build kits.



Pricepoint has the best prices, not overall, but check the specials and bargain basement.  I have found some great stuff there for cheap.
