Lurker recommends - buy a Fox
« on: October 22, 2003, 11:43:48 am »
I bought a Fox Vanilla R to replace the Noleen rear shock on my K2/Proflex 4000.  I can't tell you all how much better the ride is!  I've been reading the posts saying how much better other shocks are and now believe.

To other lurkers, and anyone who hasn't: REPLACE THE NOLEEN TODAY!

I was going to buy an Enduro to replace the old girl, but now don't need to!  My bike now rocks!  ;D

still have my nr-2, would love to replace it though.  But might just get a new frame instead (might be cheaper this way).

Bayarearider,

No need for a new frame, just scour e-bay and be patient.  I spent $20 on a Vanilla R.  The deals are there.  Just my $0.02

I still run the Noleen NR-4 in the rear and the Crosslink smart up front.

I know that Risse and Stratos make aftermarket shocks that are direct bolt-on's.  But are $200-400 dollars.  What is the retail price for a Fox?

Is Fox prefered to the Stratos and Risse?

debaucherous,

unfortunatly, i don't own an evo frame, i own a world cup....infact two world cup frames!   Which sucks because i've been scouring ebay for quite some time now and the only thing that has come up is the astro-5 that just ended yesterday.  The guy paid $202, can't these things be had for $220 new now?

unless i can find a risse or stratos for around 100 bucks, i'll most likely invest in a new frame.  Anyone here selling a razorback?  that's what i've been looking for, but the guy in my area who i was planning to buy one from dissappeared.

It seems that about $200 - $210 USD is the market value for a used Astro-5 on ebay.  The last one I saw was about 6 months ago durring the summer.  It went for $210 and included a strut.  You can get a noleen for the world cup for probably about $70 from ebay.

I put in a number of bids for that astro 5. I have been quoted $220 new so I thought that $202 was a little too expensive (even if the shock pump was thrown in). Another $18 bucks would have brought you a warranty. I do agree that $200+ is expensive and where i live (Sydney) I have to always factor in postage which is in the $30-$45 bracket!
