Frame is OK ... WOOHOO!

I contacted K2, a really nice rep named Michael Marceau who sent me some rear der. hanger screws & stickers in July, and the response back was this:
I would not worry about this. Carbon fiber does not stress crack like
aluminum or fatigue like steel. These frames are pretty tough and I have
never seen one break which is pretty impressive. The surface does damage
easy and it can be punctured by a sharp rock, but even with a bad puncture I
have seen one of our engineers continue to ride home without incident. I
would not suggest if you damage your frame to continue to riding it but it
does demonstrate how tough the material is. What I think your seeing is
near the head a junction which incurs a lot of flex. The Nylon resin which
we use as a top coat to give the bike it's shine is not as flexible as the
carbon main structure so you get the surface affect you are seeing.
Grimjack/Dave had told me he figured K2 would warrantty it but my own thoughts all along have been that it wasnt that bad, didnt really think that it would just be the resin topcoat. Its good news cause I didnt really want to pull all my parts off and secondly, I really LOVE my carbon frame As I know the rest of you carbon ownders do. He did get my hopes up that Id be getting a Tirade frame which are really sweet but at the same time, I think this is all for the best ... Hopefully they do a good job building up the new 04 Lithium (or Spire, not sure) and I could grab one of those or a frameset, I would love to stay as Simon is ... a K2 only biker [smiley=nod.gif]
All I need to do is finish mounting the Fox RC, get my cable housings cut down and everything adjusted, and Im back in business. Anyone know what a good price to pay is for a housing cutting tool ? Basically any non-flat cable cutter should work but I wanna do it right and learn how to do cables for myself.
Next mod: Disc brakes (avid mech most likely) and disc/rim wheelkit ... Hammerhead soon to follow.
BrakeTherapy
sounds like a great solution, but $150 for fixed and $300 for floating is wayy to much to spend on my rear brakes. Their rep replied and siad both types would work on the K2's (any bike really) but its just not worth it, at least IMHO.

Hey thats great news must be very relieved, must admit would find it very hard to give up my carbon even with a warranty replacement,if your looking into getting disc brakes have a look at the offerings from formula in particular the B4 or B4 sl models also the offerings from Hope like the mini, C2 and M4,don't know how much cable cutters retail for in your part of the world but they are a great tool to have.Simon [smiley=nod.gif]
