I currently have a Shimano IG-90 drivetrain on my bike. I would like to put an SRAM chain with the power link but I'm not sure if the two are compatible with each other. Can anyone shed some light on this?

As long as they're both for the same number of gears (i.e. both 8-speed or both 9 speed) you'll be fine. Heck, I even use a 9 speed Shimano chain with a 9-speed Powerlink, and it works just fine.
