Newbie Here with Question

Just happend to come across this forum a week or so ago after getting back into riding again.  I've had my Proflex 856 WCD since 1999 (bought it in mint condition off of a college friend).  I'm actually going through the process of completely rebuilding my bike.  One thing I've always want to include on my bike was a front fender(s) (so I can keep the mud/water from splashing all over my face).  I don't, however, want to lose the Vector 2 forks to attach fenders.  Has anyone been creative at designing a way to mount the front fender to the vector 2 forks (maybe like a T.H.E. fender)?  Or better yet, does anyone know of any fenders that are compatible with the vectors...something off the shelf?  Thank you all for you help.  I look forward to leaning more and more from everyone on the board, and hopefully will be able to contribute once in a while.

I just use a crud catcher on the down tube - that will stop it all from hitting your face - not your feet though - seal skinz waterproof socks for that.

Welcome by the way - there were some rebuild kits on ebay US recently - I'd get them while you can.

I just use a down tube fender similar to a crudcatcher.

But...............I have been intending to copy OP's front fender on his Oz, just havn't gotten around to it!



Rear part fits as normal into the bottom of the steerer tube, you then need to make up a bracket to fix the front piece to the exisitng mounting holes in the Vector/Crosslink fork, where the canti cable stopper/adaptor goes.

Do you have any pics of how you mounted a crud catcher with the vectors?  I imagine the crud catcher is similar to T.H.E. 's shroud fender (or at least it looks like it).  Both say they attach to the down tube, but I still can't picture how this works.  As I mentioned...I've been out of the riding game for a while and don't remember ever seeing these shrouds or crud catchers. 

With regards to the fenders, I did see OP's post after I posted this.  That custom bracket he made looks awesome and I'd love to find some way to have one fabricated.  However, even if I did, I don't see any mounting holes for that Canti cable stopper.  It's connected to the vector fork, but almost looks like it's riveted or something.  Am I losing my mind?     Worst case senario I want to remove that Canti stopper anyway (switched to V-brakes so don't need it).  Any ideas how to remove that?

Here you go:



Ypu can see the crud catcher on the down tube that is held on by 2 big rubber bands enabling you to put it where you want on the down tube, right up to the Vectors if you want as the front bit is very soft. The rear crud catcher fixes on to the seat tube.

Hey Craiga -

I appreciate the effort.  If you want, you could always e-mail the pic to me directly (my e-mail should be shared).  If not, I think I understand the whole crud catcher/shroud now.  If I'm not mistaken, it mounts to the bottom part of the frame right behind the front shock.  This is actually not a bad idea and I may try one.  Obviously I still like to do what OP did with the Canti mount fender.  I may give it a try.  Quck question to you (or anyone).  It almost looks like the fender OP used is a DH fender.  I'm not sure if that would be too wide on an 856.  Would it be better to get a XC fender set, or do you think the DH fenders are a good width for the crosslink/vector?  Thanks again!
