New to the forum & Custom Fork Options

I would like to introduce myself. I am Jalon Hawk of Desperado Cycles. I will not boar you with the details of my history in the cycling industry; you can read that on my web page: http://www.desperadocycles.com/Introduction.html . It was brought to my attention that recently there was some discussion of my use of the Crosslink fork with my Schwinn cruiser conversions and some questions on my disc brake mounts. I also provide a conversion for the steer from 1 1/8th to 1 inch. I am sure that this conversion could be as easily done the other way. I am not use to being on any forum and am not currently registered with one. I was once a part of a frame building forum however due to politics it is no longer. If there is a question about something that you think I may be able to answer that is beneficial to the forum, and I am not aware of it, please feel free to email me and I will try my best to add my knowledge and understanding.

I had a photo of an old Indian motorcycle on the wall of my Shoppe that used the “Vector” style of suspension fork that was very similar to the K2’s “Crosslink”. This style fork, also used by Amp Research, I felt was the best design for the use of cycling. Unfortunately, I believe the “Pogo Stick” type forks won the market for what ever reason.

You r post shows you can handle a forum just fine.I think you will find our forum is a very very laid back one.Please try to keep any proflex/k2 related discussion on the forum,its what we are all interested in and it will undoubtedly help others with the same query.

Yes, very nice to have you in the group! I'm a huge fan of these linkage forks...on ProFlex bikes as well as old motorcycles (like the '41 Zundapp KS600 in my shed...I recently sold it).

Jalon - welcome - I think you'll fit right in here.

A big fan here of your bike work and the use of Schwinns -  ;D

Do you remember your thought process when you first put a crosslink on another frame and also put a disc on the link?
How'd you come across them in the first place?
 
I've made a couple aluminum mounts and not had any problems, but they were similar to the epoxy on mounts I've made
for the carbons.

that's a marzocchi qr-20 disc mount internally bolted to and aluminum channel that is welded to the leg mount

I owned a bicycle shop in Madison WI and when I saw the Girvin fork at the time I thought it was a perfect match for my Schwinn. I was just gettin' into frame building and just had to put an AMP rear triangle on my Schwinn cantilever. Just to do that “One up” thing I installed a disc mount on the fork. The original is on link http://www.desperadocycles.com/Used_Schwinn_Bicycles/Photos/Our_Schwinns/24_Full_Suspension.jpg . This later was posted in Mountain Bike "Fiction" in 95'.That bike sold and became the "Blue Fox". Currently I am using a drum brake. In order to get the correct geometry for the Schwinn 24 inch wheel frame I had to use a 26 in the rear and a 24 in the front. Using the installed cantilever mounts was out of the question. That bike is currently going through another make over as we write… Again, I was intrigued with the design. Once I rode it on my steed there was no doubt that the fork could perform.
