855 blown elastomers and alternative springs

Alright folks I need some help. My wife has stumbled into a sweet 855 bike and I made her buy it. It came with a Pauls Crosstop and a sweet old school set of other parts!! Anyway the rear elastomer was completely gone and had ozzed all over the frame. I know a long time ago a bunch of groups made replacement springs, and I have looked high and low for them. I cannot afford a risse shock and I the reality is my wife will probably not ride off road. Does anyone know of a spring we can try that would at least get ride of the big hits and get this bike back on the road/trail??
Thanks

855 has "friction damped" shock only. You might need to see if you can fond a rear ODS unit and go frm there...you could fit a spring to the friction shock but it will be bouncy....check out the for sale section...therewas a guy selling a whole bunch of ODS units...
