Setback seatpost

Hello.

I'm thinking of buying a new seat post for my '97 animal. My correct frame size is something between large and way big. I currently have a large frame.
I've been thinking on a thomson setback seat post, but i've noticed that some proflex owners break the seat tube due to stress.
Is it possible that with a setback seatpost things could get worse?

The seat tube almost always breaks because the seatpost was only pushed in a small amount. If you push it iin minimum 2 inches you should  be fine, more if possible. I cut mine so it extends all the way, and rests on the little bump of weld at the bottom, and use a wimpy road clamp to keep from twisting.

Some years ago I had a way big frame, so I cut the original seatpost at the time. I never bothered to buy another, but now I feel I need a bigger one (maybe because I'm using a flat bar). Even in the seatpost height limit, it is too low for me.

FWIW I use a 400mm post at full extension (i.e. 'safe' max line) AND have my kiddie's seat hanging on the post as well as my weight on my XP-8 - not been any problems so far... but then I don't go jumping on it!
