I think your 5000 is a strut bike? If so, no the swingarm will not fit a 5500 frame, as it is too narrow to go around the frame. Now if you have an alum non-strut 5000, then also it is too narrow.

But if you have a carbon non strut swingarm on your 5000, then bullseye, you are good.

I would take the 5500 carbon frame anyway, as the correct swingarm will show up eventualy.

Hi thanks for that,

My swingarm appears to be completely carbon, no sign of any alum.

(I would upload an image but cant see how to im on a mac if that makes a difference)

Both arms one piece carbon the part where the shock rests and the arms meet is also carbon, does this mean it would fit the 5500???

from reading notes here, it seems like an ordeal to reset a swing arm so need to make sure befor i go ahead.

The reinstall is pretty straight forward except that is a little tricky to not pinch the "x" rings. What I would do is slide the swingarm off the old bike, and slide it right back on the new one. But my trick is to slide on cockeyed so the the mounts flex outward a bit as to not engage those pesky little rings until virtually in place. You could practice a bit twisting the swingarm before sliding off to see what I mean.

It is not really that tough(but is the first time around).

Beyond that, there is OP's quick lube technique you should look at. It will explain some parts.

I'm pretty sure the swingarm is the same - assuming the 5500 is a 98 frame. The 99 carbon frames (i.e. the "Oz") used a newer bearing pivot, but all carbon swingarms from the 4000/4500/5000/5500 series bikes up to '98 used a bushing in the pivot. I could be wrong, but I'm PRETTY sure... Simon is the expert on swingarm compatibility here...

Terry, the 5000 isn't a strut bike - it's basically identical to the Oz/5500 but with an aluminum front triangle. (Except that the upper shock mount is annoyingly deep on the aluminum frames making it harder to mount aftermarket shocks without modification). Of the "thousand series" bikes, only the 3000 used the older strut design.

And Jase, if your images are on the web, all you have to do is enter {img}your pic's address here{/img} but using [] instead of {}. That will insert them directly into your post.

IMHO
I don't think the Carbon Frames (4500, 5500, OzM or X) ever used a bearing pivot, I think this was only the last Evo's.

Identical swing arms it will fit.
Even if the 5000 s/arm ran on frame mounted needle
bearings its still the same s/arm.
