ProFlex 957 - Need Help with Disc..

Hi Gang! Newbie here! Go easy on me. I have been customizing Muscle bikes from the 60's for a few years and even restoring a few from time to time, however, this is my first foray into MTB bikes. I jsut recently picked up a 957 frame with Girvin fork and want to put a set of Sun Double Wide 24" with 8" Hope Disc brakes on it. Can anyone help me out with adapters or such that will accomodate this setup? Also, I am gonna need some reccomendations for cranks. I believe these are eccentric style. Anyone help? Have any parts that will help me put this thing together? Thanks, Joe aka YESHONEY

Ah welcome
first rear disc you can make up an adaptor
plenty have done this, checkout some galleries,
I have on a different model,
or you can purchase one from RDS
http://www.rapiddescentscotland.co.uk/
the front is more difficult,
some have done this by fabricating a bracket and
bonding it on,
how ever I wouldn't recommend (IMHO) doing this
if you intend to run a 8" rotor, just my opinion,
I'd recommend replacing the forks with a conventional
set with post mount or tabs for mounting the caliper,
as for cranks you don't need eccentric style,I think
your refering to bio pace,
firstly what B/B are you using,eg square taper, splined
etc
anyway cranks depend on budget but most
offerings from shimano eg LX or XT are a good starting point,
also depending on budget are offerings from
Race face,FSA and Truvative
really need to know what type of riding you intend to
do before recommending a crank model and what
B/B your using or intend to use,
or we could recommend a crank/ B/B combination,
Simon.

Hey there,
I would stick to 6 inch rotor because you just don't need the power of an 8 inch. Maybe on a 40lb. downhiller, but not a 25 lb XC bike.
There may be 2 holes on your carbon swingarm that you could bolt an adapter plate onto.
Since you are making a plate for the crosslink, you may as well use the hole patterns for the rear.
The carbon legs are very strong, but don't drill any holes in them.
Good Luck,
Terry

Also - unless you are intending to run this bike as a street cruiser lowrider hotrod kinda thing (which would be cool too) 24" rims are going to lower it the point that the cranks hit the floor when you pedal on anything bumpier than tarmac, especially if the suspension is fairly active! If you're planning on the wheels and large disc brake for looks they'll be fine so long as you you're not tempted to try to ride it on proper offroad terrain when it's built...
(says Ian who races and airs shopper bikes, and racers with crash impacted front forks, down 4 mile rocky rooty descents in some of the best cycling scenery in the UK - see
http://www.63xc.com/charh/ccv.htm
or google 'Clunker classic' for details - any of the UK heads are welcome to join in so long as the bike used isn't a proflex - unless it has been chopped, or it's one of the few cyclo-X bikes, damn I still want one of those!)
