Bad Taste'n Camelbak?

Hey there everybody! [smiley=laughing.gif]
I'm wondering if anybody has an idea on how to remove some of the "hose" tatse from a new Camelbak?
Thanks
P.S. A Special thanks goes out to Alex! The Decals are awesome! I can't wait to get the 856 painted and these stickers on her! [smiley=laughing.gif]

I've been finding the Polident denture tablet's work really well. Use it right from the get-go to help remove the "hose taste" and regular follow-ups to keep the green-nasty's away. Follow the directions on the box for optimum results.

Lemon juice works quite well for me. Cleans AND gives you a nice flavor.
I did try diluted chlorine bleach a couple of times, which also worked well. However, you have to rinse it several times to get rid of the chlorine smell (and "perceived" taste, although I don't think it was really there). I reserve that one for disastrous times - like when I left gatorade in the camelbak for 3 months! Yikes! Could have sworn it was orange when I put it in, but it was green when I washed it out!

I'll keep those ideas in mind. I tossed my camelback after the tube became yellow and the bladder became a little smelly. Too bad.
Glad you like the stickers Rick.

Try a baking soda and water solution and let it sit overnight in the fridge.
After you use a camelbak, wash it out with water and a vingear, rince well and keep it in the freezer. You will never get any mildew.

The benefit of that is that you never have to wash it, or even empty it! I've done that in the past - just add whatever water you want for each ride. Pre-chilled, no less! Of course, if your wife is like mine, taking up precious freezer space for a camelbak is a cardinal sin...

Chuck that Camelbak bladder and put in a Platypus....and get a bladder wash kit......you can wash it with soap and water, rinse it, freeze it, boil it, shower with it, have sex with it(just kidding on that one) but you get the point...........they never taste like anything but water..........I'll never use a Camelbak bladder again!

My wife just got a hydration pack for Christmas (from her brother) made by L.L. Bean. The instructions that came with it actually said to wash with water and baking soda, followed by a lemon juice rinse.

I use baby bottle sterilizing tablets - just fill with water, pop one in and leave overnight - then rinse. Gets rid of built up slime. [smiley=diaper.gif]
