Questions about Crosslinks from Newbie
« on: February 15, 2006, 08:17:36 am »
Hi

I'm new to this and very excited by finally getting some answers to questions I've got about my Proflexes (or should that be Proflices?!) :P and forks.

Anyway, first question: I have bought a couple of pairs of forks off Ebay and eagerly await them (coming by surface mail from USA to UK...eventually!). One it states is Girvin Crosslink (see Ebay item: 7209351441), the other Noleen Crosslink (Ebay item: 7216646712). What's the difference?

What travel should I expect from these?

Is there a commercially available disc mount (rather than some of those home-done jobs - I'm rubbish at DIY!)?

That'll do for now. I'll have a heap more questions soon I'm sure. Cheers, Ed

Hi Orange,

I know for sure that the Noleen crosslinks are 3 inches of travel.  The early girvins were shorter than that, but the late girvins were 3 inches.

When K2 rebranded the forks noleen, they also changed the J path to a more forgiving motion. They all work pretty good, I love my Carbon crossllinks.

Uh Oh!
The first one: 7209351441 is a 1" steerer! I'm sure your XP-8 will be a 1 1/8" steerer!
The only difference is the steerer tube, but I don't think you can get these as AM parts anymore, maybe you can use your Vector steerer tube?

But eh second one 7216646712 seems OK.

and you know you're probably going to have to pay import duty and handling charges on thes items from the US don't you?
then again $85 and $73 bucks are pretty good prices!
The shocks alone are almost worth that!

Cheers
Col.

XPX/856 has an 1 1/8" headset
but used a 1" steerer,
the steerer has a split collar adaptor to use 1 1/8" headset,
maybe you could use the adaptors on the new fork.

The original Vectors that came with the XP-8 (in the photo in my gallery) were 1" so I bought headset reducers for £18. This allowed me to fit a 1" headset to the frame and hey presto job's a goodun. The split collar thingy didn't come with the bike...

The new Crosslinks that are 1" therefore won't be a problem for the XP-8 as it already has the reducers, the other crosslinks are 1" 1/8 so no problem for my 857...
fingers crossed!

in our how to section or maybe still at k2 there are anual s for these forks. You may know about the "critical measurement"The girvins(all I think) use a critical measurement of 152 while the noleen crosslinks on the x57s were the same. All the other noleen crosslinks use a measurement of 162mm...Its been a while since i researched this so check out the manuals!
