Strange SRAM rear deraileur problem...
« on: April 09, 2003, 09:42:28 am »
hi guys,
i have this weird thing happening that has never happened before.
i have a sram 9.0sl rear deraileur, taken off my 957 - put on my oz. now for some strange reason the actual inner cable pops out of it's groove while riding/shifting. this is the bit after the cable stop and before the cable clamp bolt. it kinda curves it's way down to the bolt - is part of the deraileur.
obivoulsy it's causing my shifting all sorts of problems - which in turn is driving me nuts.
any ideas? the only thing i can come up with is maybe the deraileur hanger bolt is binding and needs a clean/lube - haven't checked this out yet...

hmm... yeah - well it was all put on and set up at the local bike shop, and as far as the b-screw is concerned i'm sure it was screwed in a bit more than it was on my 957...
will try that also
cheers  :)

I believe that on the SRAM derailleur, there is supposed to be a little "hole" at the end of the groove that you are talking about that the cable should feed through.  Basically, it's a curved plastic top that covers a small portion of the groove at the end right before it goes down to the cable clamp bolt.  Seems like it would be very hard for the cable to come out of the groove if it is routed through this hole.  However, it seems like it would be impossible to keep the cable in the groove if it weren't routed through the hole.  Maybe that's the problem.  Or possibly the curved top was broken off when someone removed the cable.
