interface between workstand clamp and carbon frame
« on: April 19, 2005, 07:15:19 am »
now that my parts for my 4500/5500 frame are coming in, I put my carbon frame in my workstand. the clamp is shaped for a steel chrom-moly frame, of course. it never really fit that well for my aluminum 5000 frame, but I just cranked it down and it would always hold.

I am afraid to just crank down on the carbon. don't want to crack it. the clamp on my stand only grabs 1.5 inches of my very very wide top "tube".

I hope I can modify my "Ultimate Bike Support"

http://www.ultimatesupport.com/ussbike/product.asp?16005

but I haven't figured out how.

I sure hope I don't have to buy a new stand.

any suggestions?

Technically, you should ALWAYS clamp the seatpost and not the frame. Especially with aluminum and/or carbon frames, which are not designed to withstand clamping forces.
