looking for Fox Talas R rear shock..

Hi,
I have decided to make the big jump to disc brakes on Blue Crush. this means retiring the spinergy wheels to yet another bike and getting some disc compatible wheels.
at the same time I think I will get the talas fork upgraded to inertial valve technology and put a talas R propedal on the rear.

the problem is, Fox is no longer making that rear shock, and I can't find anyone anywhere. does anyone know where I can find one? I have been looking on ebay, no luck yet. I may just have to wait, but if anyone has any idea, I'd appreciate it. a 2003 or 2004 would be good. length 8.00", I think,. I have to recheck OP's gallery.

Heck, if you're just going to "retire" them, I'll take 'em...

I'm not sure why you'd want the inertial valve fork. OK, I actually DO know why - because it's technologically cool - but it's not a good enough reason. Nobody I know of has said such shocks/forks are very comfortable. Efficient, yes, but at the cost of comfort. Not worth it, in my opinion. Especially when SPV types (which are pretty nice) maintain more plushness while achieving a similar, though not exactly the same effect.

Actually, I just read a review of a bike with the newest Fox shock (can't remember what it was), but the idea was that instead of a lockout, you can turn the SPV function on and off. That's exactly what I've been wishing for (as if I could afford to upgrade ANYTHING at all right now...) The SPV is amazing on climbs and not too shabby on downhills, but I'd prefer not to have it on rough descents. Sounds like Fox figured out a way to have both!

Now that's the cat's meow. You could stiffen the valve to your heart's content for climbing, have it free up on a hit, and turn it off for plush descending.

Now if they could build in a gyroscopic actuator for the valve. Wait, a high speed GPS. Wait, LO-JACK plus tilt switches.

Actually the tilt switch idea is pretty good. I may have to think on that.

Maybe I'll just get the fork PUSH'ed. I heard the stratos id cartridge isn't that good.

The Giant HT is coming along. I am building myself during a Park Tool School course at my LBS. having fun learning and doing!! will post pics of completed bike, of course.

I may look at the Fox RP3, but would have liked to have the adjustability of the Talas rear shock to go with the adjustability of the Talas fork.

staying with Spinergys and rim brakes, for now. The bike is too cool with them, and the proshift brakes work awesomely, anyway.
