Unique 957 swingarm & frame 4-sale
« on: March 28, 2003, 11:02:49 am »
Ok, one more shot at this.  I have a 957 frame and swingarm only for sale.  The swingarm is very unique - no v-brake bosses [smiley=nod.gif].  It seems that they were never attached at the factory.  I bought the frame and swingarm to build up, but I don't have discs so it was going to be more expensive than I wanted to spend on a 2nd bike.  You guys are very helpful and I wanted to give you first shot at it.  I tried on the old forum, but it took months to find a box that would ship overseas at a descent cost - too late to sale - but now I have a good box for it.  Make me any reasonable offer.  I just want somebody to build it up and I don't want to lose money in the process.  I will also sale only the swingarm if you are interested since it is so unique. [smiley=furious.gif]  Pics are in the "file" section posted on 1/20 & 1/21/03.  Thanks guys.

How do you put Disk Brakes on it, I don't think that any kind of adaptor would work there, only option would be internal drum brakes.

BTW have you ever seen the brakes wich works then you turn your pedals  other way/ backward. we used to have it in Ukraine (same thing in Russia), the bikes were single speed, with no front brakes, I remember those brake were pretty good, and worked in any kind of weather. anything like that in states? or other countries?

um, yeah they are called 'coaster brakes"... on many low end kid bikes and on cruiser bikes..not much modulation tho'  [smiley=laughing.gif]

and the dropouts on *57's did have the dropout factory drilled.  another anomoly regarding this swingarm, thanks for pointing that out

The full story is this, I bought the bike off of ebay.  The swingarm appears to me to be brand new - never used.  No marks or anything on it.  The frame appears that it may have had minor use.  I was told that it had been "robbed" of parts over the years and never used.  I purchased it from a bike shop in NC supposedly.  The frame is in very good shop and its possible that the minor "wear" on it is just from being handled at the shop because it has not dents, scratches or anything like that on it.  I did not know that it was missing the brake bosses.  I purhased it to build up by "sharing" parts from my existing hardtail.  I thought I would switch back and forth between the two every few months or so.  However, when I realized it needed discs - I never went any farther with it.  I have held it for about 4-6 months to see if I changed my mind, but I haven't.  I don't want to spend any money on discs - I have other toys that I want!
My guess - and only a guess - is that this bike was in a shop and never sold.  Another bike had a warranty claim for a swingarm.  They gave the guy the swingarm off of this bike, and used the warranty replacement to replace it.  The replacement came as seen in the pics with no v-brake bosses and because the frame wasn't being used - they may or may not have noticed.  I contacted them about the bosses when the frame arrived and the seemed to honestly have no idea what I was talking about.  Hope that helps guys.  I don't want much for it.  If anyone needs a replacement frame only we can work out a good price.  Its a "way to big" 20".

Thanks.

Mike of Hammerhead adapters was perfecting an adapter to work on these swingarms-post seperately here on the forum for his response.  I think they're ready to go!
