ODS unit for sale...
« on: May 19, 2004, 03:36:46 am »
I'm surprised nobody bid on this. Brand new ODS unit. I was tempted to just buy it and then offer it here, but my wife keeps a sharp lid on "frivolous" bike purchases... Seems like there are a few people out there who would want one of these for the price (It could have been bought for $14). If you're interested, you might email the guy about it and see if he'll still sell it. Could be a decent upgrade for someone who just has straight elastomers and wants damping (can be upgraded to use springs if I remember correctly).

Hi,

I own, recently, a Proflex Reptile frame which I want to rebuild. It has e Girvin fork in it. Can you tell, whether I can use this ODS unit?

Thanks in advance,
FrankC

if you have a vector the ods unit should fit.The best thing is with a adapter you can now fit a spring

Wow! That's cool. According to the guy, the mcu's are not soft anymore, so a spring would be a good alternative ;)

the mcu can be oftened temporarily by immersing in warm water or pouring hot water over them when you in a hurry.A sticky post at the top of the page has a link to a guy selling new mcu,s.The spring idea needs adapters as used on the old spped spring kit.I dont think they do them anymore

try CVI in the UK or Callum at RDI.There uses to be a kit caled a speed pro conversion, which included a spring and a set of adapters to fit the longer spring onto the ods unit. They may have em but i doubt it.With any luck they will be able to suggest who might or give you some info to get some adapters made...there is nothing special aout the springs.....

Hi all,
just a word on rejuvinating MCUs on ODS shocks - I have tried the hot water method and it doesn't really work - immersed in hot water for a minute basically made them so soft they were impractical to use, and then reverted to being rock hard 6 weeks later.

I'd recommend getting a coil spring and fitting it to the ODS. I managed to get a smartshock coil spring on my front ODS, (Vector fork) by removing the upper mcu retaining plate and using a reversed 1" headset cup from an old frame I had lying around. See my gallery under the alias Junkster for a picture and further details.
