856 New fork?
« on: August 27, 2004, 10:29:07 am »
8)Hello one and all I would like some advice on replacing the Girvin fork on my Proflex 856 with a new fork. I am leaning towards a Fox 100 rl float. Any opinions or sugestions or what did you use & why. I ride XC and am a strong rider at 6'3" and 210lbs.  :P
Thanks. 8)

The fox 100 RL Float is a great fork at 3.75 lbs. It is also a candidate for the new Stratos cartridge upgrade when you desire. I use my lockout on every ride these days and you will too when you try it.

I have an '02 Psylo on my Oz, with 3 to 5 inches of travel. I plan on purchasing the Stratos unit next month because my damper is failing fast. It will set me back $250 plus $35 for the install at Stratos.

Where in SoCal are you? I am in the Valley.

Maybe you could look at something a bit different
https://www.pacecycles.com/product.asp?catlD=2&subcat=455
its had some excellent reviews, maybe the travel could be a bit excessive for you but they do some other forks that may be of interest.

Terry I am in Orange county work in the Irvine area & live in Portola Hills, good bikeing just outside my door.
Simon I will look into that fork it looks good for as little as i read 130 is a bit much i think for the 856 frame but it is always good to have many options, I will read more as time allows. thanks for the link.

If your on a budget they highly rated Diatech's Anchor disc brake,Hydraulic stoppers at cable disc prices.

Yes, you should go with a disc on your frontt fork, now. Avids are nice so are many others like what Simon is suggesting. For a front you can do a mechanical disc and not suffer much in the way of cable drag as compared to as rear mech disc set up.

But you will need a disc front hub, and spokes at least....
