How long is too long!
« on: March 24, 2003, 04:01:14 am »
I have been waiting for my new XC bike to come in from my LBS for weeks and weeks. They had one in a smaller size and told me it will only be 2-3 days to get the right size for me I said ok how much deposit do you need the said none but I said I am ready to buy how about $500 cash deposit now (total price for the bike is $2000). They said great that would help. I asked for a few minor upgrades to be added when the bike gets here they again replied no problem they will pull the items off the shelf. I was very, very excited to wait the 3 days so I went in on my lunch to see if it was in and the said no it will be 2-3 days. I waited another 3 days and was in the area and once again droped by and there it was brand new, shiny, and had all the upgrades I asked for disc's, seat post ect.. I was smileing ear to ear. I went to touch it and said is it mine? I was shocked when they said No that is not yours. Your's will be in in 2-3 days. I asked if they were sure because of the upgrades I asked for were on the bike all this while a guy was walking out with it and putting it in his truck. They replied that he was waiting for that bike since December and my bike is comming from their Rep. 3 more days and I call same response "No 2-3 days". This has gone on now for 25 days I call or go in and they say 2-3 days.
How long do I wait? I can get it at Supergo? Do I ask for my deposit back and get it somewhere else?
Please help.

ooh your kind of in a bind.
the first thing i would do is talk to the owner of the bike shop unless it is a chain store most of the time the owners do not want unhappy shoppers walking around town bad mouthing their company. if that doesn't work call or email the manufacturer. just tell them the dealer seems to be having a problem getting the bike you want and does it always take this long or is the lbs having account problems with them. the last thing you do is go in there and tell them to give you your money back. the way it sounds they don't require a deposit to order a bike so yours should be refundable.   good luck

i agree with epac, you need some other reason than 2-3 more days for three weeks. be diplomatic, 'cuz it will be repaid many times over.

good luck
you have waited too long for getting the same response over and over.

Did you sign anything when you gave your deposit? receipt of payment? or was this a verbal agreement? I'd promptly ask for my down payment back. If they string you along now,  imagine if the bike has any problems or warranty issues. Good luck

I have a receipt for the deposit, but I just want a honest answer on how long to wait or the option to go somewhere else I dont like making plans to ride then not having a bike to go 3-4 times. I wouldnt be so concerned if I didnt see them selling the exact bike I was waiting for. [smiley=diaper.gif]

if you can get the same bike elsewere for the same cost right away...

i suggest you get your money back and go there..

it suks your bike shop is hanging you out... but in the real world of bike shops, those who can deliver.. thrive. those who cant flounder....

why should u be left bikeless cuz the bike shop cant deliver...do you own shares in this company??? i bet u dont...
