The Stratos saga continues...

My eBay auction ended without a winner, although it did get higher than I thought it would. Afterwards I got at least 5 emails from people wanting to know if it was still for sale. I replied to all of them, but I just got the kind of offer I was looking for... a Fox Vanilla 125RLC in direct trade. The only problem is that it's used. I haven't seen a picture yet, but it's supposed to be in primo condition, and it just came back from a tuneup by Fox.

So... should I go for it? My opinion is yes, based on my experience trying to sell this thing... But I may be giddy at the idea of this working out the way I wanted it to.

I probably would too. The only caveat being that with a trade, you don't have ANY protection other than knowing the address you sent your fork to. In other words, if you never get a Fox in the mail, but send your Stratos off to a stranger, the only way to recoup your loss is to track the guy down personally. No PayPal protection, no credit card protection. However, in my experience, if a person is a good communicator, has real pictures of the fork (ask for a picture of the inside of the dropout or something he wouldn't be able to just copy off the web), and is willing to give you a phone number in addition to the address, you're probably safe. (I'd get in phone contact to be safe though).

I have a feeling you're going to very happy soon...

Yep, this is the only part I'm a little uncomfortable with. But, I have his home number, his cell number, his work number, his fax number, his home address, his work address, and his wife's name. And he lives within a day's drive of me (in Minnesota).

I'm starting to get happy...

Do the math. Value of a used Fox? Value of your fork? Highest cash offer for your fork? What can you buy with the highest cash offer?

I say ask why it had to be rebuilt and if that sounds ok then get the Fo. You wont be disipointed in the Fox.

Looks like the deal is good... just got off the phone with him, he's gonna send me more pics, etc.

The fork was in for the annual oil change, not any kind of warranty stuff.

The deal sealer for me was that he is also a poster on MTBR Passion... to me, that's also a vote of confidence, cause that's a pretty tight community.

Anyway, I'll post pics of it when it's all built. The monkey approaches completion!

As Mat was saying earlier, I think you can get good idea about the buyer/seller through a couple emails. See how responsive they are to your questions. Iv'e had good luck with Ebay and MTB. My 2nd Ebay auction netted me a negative from a buyer because I gave him a neg. because he did not respond to the end of auction after 2weeks. So, you really have to look at the feedback on the whole. I don't think you'll have a problem. Rich

I wonder why is that guy want to trade Fox for Stratos? Did he told you why?

I mean if I had Fox, i wouldn't trade it for anything [smiley=disbelief.gif], maybe only for USE S.U.B.

He works in Wayzata, lives in St. Louis Park. I expect everything will be fine, he seemed fine on the phone. But I'll let you know if I need a house call

As far as why he's trading, he just wanted a dual-crown fork. I'm not sure why he didn't just buy one in the first place, but that's not really my concern... I'm sure we both think we're getting a good deal!

You ARE both getting a good deal. You're getting the best fork there is (IMO), and he's getting a fork from an expensive, relatively small manufacturer that is hard to find on the used market. Sounds perfect! I'm jealous, but I'm pretty sure nobody would want to trade their Fox RLC for my Manitou X-vert. Even if it is in perfect condition! Just in case, my email is...
