I have a Risse Astro 5 shock on a 900 Evo frame.  I'm trying to sell both.  Inlcuded in the deal is a brand new coil that came on the frame.  I got the frame as a warranty replacement and am looking to get a XC racing frame.  Evo frame is brand new, swingarm is powder coated.  Shocks have been used maybe 5 times.

Asking $300 for the whole kit.  Make me an offer if you're interested.  I do have pics.  If you want just the shock(s), we may be able to come to terms on one of them.

bigonexxl, none of the shocks mentioned above will fit. you need one that has the cone attachment on one end. the shocks these guys have will only fit '98 and later evo style frames. here's a link to stratos's helix, which they make to fit the '97 animal.

risse also makes shocks for your frame.

Why not replace it with a spring?  Cheapest alternative and will yield decent performance.
My wife has a 200lb spring on her NR2 (856) and it's perfect for her weight.  I just changed out the oil w/ 10 weight.
957 - sold
856 w/ cane creek shock - wife's bike

:) I agree just look into replacing the MCU with a spring. It is a bolt right on replacement at very little cost.
Have fun!  8)

Go to the links page and contact RDI,they used to supply mountain spring conversion kits for proflex ODS units,as these kits are no longer made they can no longer supply these units but say they are working on an alternative supply, contact them and see if they can or will be able to help, otherwise if you intend to keep the bike for the forseable future I'd go for a replacement shock as has been already  suggested.Simon
