Oz (Blue Crush) final build kit
«
on:
March 01, 2003, 01:25:53 pm »
ok guys, here is the latest update on the build kit for my Oz. some of it has been installed, other things like the disc wheels, disc brakes, Fox fork are still on the way.
feel free to comment, esp. if you are an Oz owner yourself.
frame: Oz M medium
fork: Fox Talas R (two or three weeks away)
rear shock: Risse Astro 5
wheels: Aerospoke with disc hubs (due in next week)
brakes: Avid mech. discs with custom Hope rotors
brake levers: Precision Billet
shifters: Precision Billet
grips: ODI lock on with Bontrager grips
bar end plugs: Xlite Disco
cables: IRD metawire
handlebars: Easton Monkey Lite
stem: Moots titanium (this thing is beautiful!)
steering dampener: Hopey
seatpost: Easton CT2
saddle: SDG Grand Prix custom
rear fender: Mud Machine (modified by me)
front fender: THE frame fender
skewers: Cook Bros. Racing
seatpost clamp: Xlite
bottom bracket: FSA Extreme Pro Ti ISIS
crankset: FSA carbon pro
chainrings: Blackspire Super Pro, with Blackspire Chuck SS granny and SRP alloy bolts
front der: Shimano (unfortunately) XTR
rear der: Precision Billet
cassette: SRAM 8 spd.
chain: SRAM (may be replace with Whipperman SS)
pedals: Speedplay Frog Ti
bottle cage: Woodman Components Carbo Cage Lat
tires: currently Smoke/Dart Classic 2.1, may go to Hutchinson Scorpion Gold 2.3 or Nokian NBX 2.3
computer: Vetta V100 wireless w/ wireless cadence
lights: Turbocat
mojo: "Big Mouth"
saddle bag: Inertia Designs
swingarm protection: Lizard Skins
rear shock boot: Lizard Skins
cable protection on frame: Lizard Skins carbon patches
other stuff: Avid Rollamajig, Avid Full Metal Jacket housing for brake cables, Grunge Guard der. covers
I think thats about it. There are a lot of parts on a bike, aren't there?
so, what do you all think about all of this?
by the way, my bike weighs 28.5 lbs with Spinergy wheels, hopey, Moots stem, and Precision Billet V-brakes, carbon Xlink, Noleen shocks front and rear. so, it may end up close to 30 lbs. but we'll see.

What do you think of the metawire? I might be getting some of that for my Monkey, after I decide what brakes I'm getting...

slowride,
I have the metawire cables installed on the shifters only right now. I think they are great, I got the black ones by the way. anyway, kind of a pain to install, but they work really well.
expensive, but if you are into really cool stuff that works well, buy 'em!!

and you have to mention that the bike is sporting a quad ring from me!
let us know how the TALAS Fox Forx works, my eye is on that!
i am very happy with the Smoke/Dart's on my Oz...i see you have a rollamajig, too that's a great little gizmo, too

Carbon,
Pedro's Ice Wax lube, I think it is, also Pedro's Bike Lust.
I apologize for not yet sending you quad rings, I will make sure to put a couple in the mail to you tomorrow.
EVERYONE, CARBON SENT ME A QUAD RING WHEN I REALLY NEEDED ONE. I THANK HIM FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!!

Sounds a great spec. Also, looking forward to the pic.'s.
Have you read all the reviews on the Fox forks on mtbr? Many of them are unhappy that the real weight is ˝lb or more than the brouchure alludes to! But they still love the fork. I hope your not a weight weenie.
The Rollamajig thingy are going half price over here, I think people tried them and they didn't work too well in our wetter conditions - I'll check this out.
Like an opinion of the Hopey.
Also, what is the i2i and stroke of the Astro 5?

Beautiful specs on your Oz. don't worry re: weight it'll still move smartly uphill. I've found a fix-cheap and permanent- for the Rollamagig/mud and will soon post it wth the help of a friends digital camera.Yes, I'd cover my derailleur in clear too were it machined art....

Oz-SUB,
as for weight, beyondbikes.com claims its 3.2 lbs. I'll have to wait and see when I get it. however, I agree, its a great fork as the two reviews for the R model indicate, although one guy claims his blew up on him. however, he did say Fox fixed it under warranty quickly.

43 pounds isn't heavy.

I run a rollamajig on my ride, and it's ugly wet and muddy here most of the year. It's a better solution than the hoop of death, beyond the shadow of a doubt!
