2003 Razorback frame

Any views on these frames?

Interested in feed back from anyone on the forum who has ridden one. I have checeked MTBr.com but I thought I'd come right to the core.

Sprucey - out of curiosity how much did they offer the razorback as a warranty for? or was it a direct replacement? And would they let you keep the OZ to machine shop a replacement seat tube as well as getting a razorback?!

Good frame.  I rode the 01 Team frame for one season and I liked it quite a bit.  At that time though I was leaning much more toward freeriding so I was jumping it a lot and I figured I'd break it sooner than later, so I sold it to a pure xc guy.

Looking back though, I think it's a tougher bike than it may seem,  especially with the new gussets they've added.  I probably should not have sold it.

As for riding, it's really is a xc race breed bike.  A good mix of hardtail characteristics with a bit of cushion on bigger hits.  It is not plush at all.  I consider the bike to be a good replacement for the 957 frame.  It is very similar in all respects, other than the Razorback has a very slightly longer top tube and of course the rear end is a lot more laterally stiff.

I have a riding pal who has very similar taste in bikes.  He rode a Titus Racer X at that time and we occasionally swapped bikes.  We agreed that in all respects it was a draw between the two.  The only thing is that K2's sizing is a bit odd and his X would be considered a medium, while a similar sized Razorback is a large (I find this to be true across the Proflex/K2 line).  

If you haven't already, at MTBR look at the reviews for the Turner Stinger as well, it's the same bike.

  I wonder what the diference is from the 2001 model to the 2003. I have been looking at the 2001 on sale at supergo it seems like a good deal for under $1000 us.
What are your thoughts?

Well I am in or was in the same situation as yourself.  I bought an 01 razorback team and realized that getting the newer model might or will be benefiting me in the long run.  So far from what i have to be the main difference between the two:

The main characteristic that was appealing to me was the fact that the 03 (maybe 02 also) is adjustable so you can adjust your top tube angle.  This will benefit people who want to ride a 80mm fork and or/a 100mm.

Although i haven't built it yet, i'll let you know how it goes.  I got the 03 used for the same price i got the 01 for.  Which was $250 which i am selling now(still brand new in bubble wrap).  The 03 comes with a fox RL  while the 01 comes with the noleen.

 ;)the razorback is a great xc frame. but not a do-it-all trail bike. the '03 model has a lighter frame tubing which is why it has the extra gussets that the previous years didn't. the fox is supposed an improvement over the noleen, but i haven't had a problem with mine.
you have a unique bike in the oz that the razorback may not be able to replace in some areas.
i love my razorback but i want a 4-5" trailbike.

Sprucey-some time back (maybe even on the original K2 site) a K2 employee said the Oz/5500 was around 3 times as costly to make so I suggest a return of your Oz for a Razorback is not a fair trade, even used.  Having an Oz keeps me partial of course!
