Romic shock on a 1999 EVO would it work
« on: November 02, 2003, 12:31:08 am »
I have found a Romic 7.5" by 2" stroke rear shock.  How do you guys feel that shock would work on the bike.  I already have a Fox shock RC on the bike, but on the EVO I had to mount it upside down and sometimes I compress the rear enough to have the compression nob hit the tire.  So I would like to change to a shock that does not have the external resivor or a remote one.

I know my current shock is already smaller than the standard K2 209mm at being 7.8", and the bike handles great,  but will losing the extra .25" make a big deal?

Thanks

Simon

Sounds a bit short 7.5" against the standard 209mm (8 1/4") may slacken the head angle to much for comfort, can you try it first just to be sure?I believe Romic also do an 8" i to i shock what about one of those or is the one you've see a special deal? ever concidered an air shock Risse, Fox,Rockshox etc,Simon

I weight 200lb and have never ridden an air shock that felt nice.  So I generally stay to coil over oil, since I know those work.

it will change the ride characteristics as it will drop the back end 2" or so from specs, that's an inch at the bottom bracket - and, slacken the head angle a bunch

i'd only do that to drop standover or ride downhill with dennis -

romic should be your best bet for a coil over with full controls, the alternative is a standard fox vanilla but i don't believe they came with a c control -

A Romic won't fit on the Evo frame... they don't mkae an extended tail to fit up in the frame, and the coils are too wide. Probably your best bet is to use a Vanilla R with the new ProPedal.

Hi OP,
I have been busy with the family and riding my bike when I can.  Since I finaly built up my EVO to where I am no longer breaking it I have not been to the site much for mods.  How is my old OZ frame holding up?  I really regret selling that frame to you, but oh well my EVO is doing the job.

But to flip this shock over I think I am going to have an adapter built.  My dad has access to a CNC mill and I just need to make a drawing to get the dimensions.  Then I will be able to flip the shock over, get the head angle back to factory and have a nicer shock than the wonderful Nolean stuff.

there's been conversations here in the past about taking shorter shocks and machining adapters to help them fit.

it doesn't seem that difficult to make something that would fit on the swingarm side of things - but then, i haven't made one.  a simple block of aluminum could be drilled to accomodate a bolt for the exising holes in the swingarm plate, angle over the edge and extend up and towards the shorter shock with at "U' for the head to fit in and the sides of the "U" sitting on the plate lips.  could make some different ones to accomodate different length shocks.

yeah, beat out hammer in the bidding for that one and it's still riding strong - never a problem 'cept with age, the finish is getting a tad cloudy at the spine and bottom bracket
