Steer me away from an Enduro...
« on: October 13, 2003, 03:21:42 pm »
I have had an on-going problem w/ the front supension on my 01' Disco monkey. It was speced w/ a 4" fork and when I run my 5" Z1 Freeride the steering slows too much for my liking. I have been running my Psylo XC in 4" mode but the Psylo just doesn't compare to the Z1's plushness. Option 1) try another 4" fork- Manitou or? 2) try a 8.5" Vanilla RC to even put the front to rear ? 3) Buy my freinds Enduro Pro frame(spec'd w/ a 5" fork) and build it up? What to do?

hmmmmm, I think the grass is greener when it comes to riding a five inch fork at least it has been my experience. I think a more talented rider might have a different opinion than mine.

the head tube angle/fork length issue is causing the slack steering

Try a Vanilla front they don't jack the front up as much as a bomber, I've run a fox for ages and haven't had any problems.dmc

sorry I'm going to commit treason and steer you towards the Enduro ! Obviously a lot depends on price and condition of the enduro and what you have to do to build it up. Isn't there a 4" zokie available, if not new you can probably pick up a good used one for the DM .I like the enduro and from the accounts i've heard it is a great frame, probably not as good for DH/ drops as the DM, but better for all purpose riding. You will be able to sell the DM easily here I reckon [what size is it !]

I ran both a Z1 Wedge and freeride @ 4" and didn't like the ride- lost too much of the plush travel, bike felt like it was nose diving. I should really keep my DM (Way Big) and buy a complete bike except I like my components (Z1 Freeride, Singletrack's etc) I had a chance to test ride an Enduro comp but the bar/ stem combo and 100mm Manitou fork left me really confused w/ my choices.

Be carefull what you ask for.  A steeper fork angle will make steering quicker at the expense freeride capabilities:

I may be biased, but Manitou makes some pretty dang nice 4" forks. Make sure you get one with TPC+ not just plain TPC.

RIDE FASTER and you steering speed should increase!! ;) JK. I would also steer you toward the Enduro. It's a fabulous XC/Light Freeride bike. IMO, it's leaps and bounds ahead of anything K2 has ever offered (or probably will). I would def. steer clear of the 8.5 Fox in conjunction with the taller fork. The two together will make your BB higher making slow tech sections more difficult. Good luck, I'm sure you'll figure it out.

double your fun, keep the dm and buy the enduro. Each will excell in different situations, and then tell us which they are.
Personally, I own a short travel fsr and a 5.4" evo.
