2002 EVO Bumpy Monkey Frame Pivot Rebuild Kit
« on: October 19, 2016, 04:09:08 pm »
Since the 4000 is pretty much finished and ready to go, I decided to start tinkering with the spare EVO frame so that I can start putting to use all of the goodies that I've purchased for it.

The only thing that wasn't off the frame was the swingarm so armed with the user manual downloaded courtesy of this forum I got to work.

It went pretty much without any issue with the exception of one of the two thrust bearings and needle bearings that got mangled in the process.

Not sure if the thrust washer was already damaged (the swingarm to frame gap was indeed wider on one side which makes me think the washer was already deformed, but the pivot did make some resistance so I am not putting the blame on anybody other than me).

While the needle bearings are easily sourced (Steel Needle-Roller Bearing, Open, for 5/8" Shaft Diameter, 13/16" OD, 5/8"Width no cage Koyo B-1010), the thrust bearing is proving a little bit more of a challenge.

Dimensions seem to .056" thickness, 5/8" shaft diameter and 1 1/8 OD, the material seems to be some type of coated aluminum.

Since the proper rebuild kit is no longer available, is there anybody in  the position to source one of these washers or indicate where one could be sourced ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

P.S. I know, I can't leave it alone!

www.bocabearings.com should be able to hook you up with any size bearing you need.

The original part is a .056" thick aluminum washer coated with some dry lubricant (teflon, graphite). Boca does not show any washer of the same size, I was wondering if replacing the .056" thick aluminum washer with 2x .030" thick, chrome steel thrust washers with grease would do the trick. What concerns me is that the parts in contact with the thrust washer are aluminum, so friction against chrome steel would wear them out (and those are irreplaceable as much as the washer). On the other side two thinner washer should probably move the friction area between the two steel washers...that size is available on Boca.

Thanks fro the link anyway.
