A Slightly Dead 954

Hi all,
I've arrived here via Retrobike and found (and was allowed to take....) an old Proflex under a patio floor on a remote island off the Sunshine Coast, BC Canada (I live in Vancouver). A couple of things.....firstly the main pivot is cracked (seeing another thread, it sort of looks like modern 'top hat' that fits into a modern shock. I guess that there should also be a bolt going through but it's missing. Are there any options for replacing this? Secondly, any idea what the shock is? I've not seen a coil / oil (if there is oil in the top of it?) shock on one of these before. I've no idea if it works or not!
Cheers!

I've just had a bit of a facepalm moment.... Maybe the elastomers were replaced by a simple spring? The upper assembly looks to be the same as the elastomer version.

Nice Find!
Thats the only "older" PRO~FLEX that I lust after in preference to my 962.
yes it would have had MCU's when Original

Hi walleater! I'm glad another one has survived,im in the process of restoring a 954 as we speak. Whatever you do don't scrap it. Colin is correct it originally had elastomers & is not oil damped,im looking into some sort of conversion for mine. Please upload a nice closeup photo of the crack, also a closeup of the swingarm sticker too as I need to get some reproduced for mine
if you don't mind of coarse.

Also noticed the old style chainset,if it's an original bottom bracket these came with either a syncros titanium or xt.

Just found your post on retrobike, your actually saying the pivot assembly is dead, well that's just a standard 1994 pivot, all 94 swingarms are the same. If you look at the rear dropout from the inside you will see they just ground off the rear seatstay eyelets. Anybody got a spare old 94 frame for parts, at a push possibly a 93 be worth a try.

Hi guys. Thanks for the info! Here's some pictures as requested. I'm afraid the decal isn't great but you get a good idea of how it should look. I was already intrigued by the bottom bracket, so I've whipped the cranks off, and yes it's a Syncros Ti BB! Whether it'll come out of the frame is another story! The bearings are a bit shot so I'd like it to come out anyway. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the photo, perfect shot, mine didn't come with the rear stickers and not been able to get a good enough scan from a brochure. Tread carefully with the bottom bracket as the aluminium is quite soft, mine was a pig
with a little TLC you could have a great ride.
Check out my thread (954 coming along) keep us updated.
P.s also check the headset as some were fitted with early Chris king.
