NR-2 testing for rebuild or replacement?

I've tested them by taking the shock off the bike and the spring off the shock and compressing the shaft all the way.

I get about ~1+ second for full rebeound when damping is off(?)

and very little rebound when damping is on(?) (knob truned all the way in the direction of the " + " arrow.

I'm debating again whether to part-out my Oz that just hangs in the garage or sell whole. (Frame has a "HammerHead" disc adapter and was from eDiscountbike so it's doesn't have OEM parts and I figure a frame (or full bike) with a funtional NR-2 might be better than a frame with a dead NR-2 unless the shock is almost always swapped out for aftermarket like http://www.risseracing.com/airshocks.shtml or Fox or whatever.

The spring is what provides most of the rebound. It may just need a nitrogen recharge to get back up to speed. I have seen the fill kits on Ebay but you still need a nitrogen source. I have seen tire shops offering tire fills with it so may try that way.

If you take the spring off and then compress the shock shft in and pull it out and there is resistance in both directions then it's probably working OK.
Sometimes it will "return" of it's own accord and this can be visibly affected by fiddling with the knobs.

I have a selection of Knackered NR- shocks and it's very apparant that there is no damping, I can push the shaft in easy peasy!

If the shock does not return to the extended position when the spring is removed then it is at least in need of a nitrogen recharge.  The speed of the compression and rebound is an indication of the seal condition.

My damper does not work anymore after 13 years standing, shaft just stays where you leave it, may be a lack of nitrogen or something else is wrong.

Where can I sent my Noleen NR-4 to be rebuilt?

Some motor cycle suspension shop will service them. Give Kais a ring. They are on line for details and situated near Manchester but do post of cause.

Are they good with rebuilding NR4s? Should I send them my 1997 Marzocchi Z1 as well, or is there someone else better?

Yep thats them. Give them a ring and ask. they are friends of a friend and I asked about noleen shocks lust the other week and they said it shouldnt be a problem. You might have to supply a rebuild kit with the shock as they are not available in britain, but ring them first and ask.
