What shock will fit a 757 special edition?

Hi all, i moved into my new house this week and in the garage was a proflez 757. All original in good condition needs a clean up and regrease, but its missing the rear shock and connection kit, could anyone tell me where in the uk i can get the noleen replacement or if not what other shock will fit?

Good find! Sadly Noleen shocks are no longer available UK eccept for second hand items on ebay. Noleenj6 in USA still sell all models of shocks but theyre pretty expensive. Any shock of the same length will fit in theory if you make a cone adapter to fit the strut. Risse Racing in USA make an air shock for Proflex's and they come up on ebay now and then.

CheerS m8, thats the only issue is making the adaptor but im someone can do it, ill do some research, or of course if anyone has one spare then want to sell........

when you say connection kit,what do you mean?Does it have a swingarm and strut that the shock mounts to or is it missing the strut?

Sorry i meant the bushing and screws the swingarm is all there

a noleen or risse for the 757 will only require two bolts,any other shock of about 210 mm will require a cone shaped adapter for the strut

This maybe a daft question, but why "must" you use a cone adapter?
Why cannot the new adapter fit flush against the stut? Plenty of flat area to fit against, still bolt through???
Am I missing something.

Most modern shocks are made to fit between two bolt points at right angles to the shock, i.e. "eye to eye"


Your 757 and other strut type PRO~FLEX bikes have a bolt through point on the frame but an end bolt through the strut and into the shock, see diagram:-

Here's an ODS shock as an example, NR-1, 2's and 4's were also available:-

so no-one makes them like that anymore, therefor you need an adaptor from a right angle "eye" to an end bolt fixing. Adapting to an actual cone is not essential but will improve the rigidity.

we basically refer to any conversion to a modern shock on a strut frame bike as a "cone adaptor"

Col, have you got any more detailed pics of that adapter? did you get one made and finished?
The Noleen on the rear of my 857 is doing some silly things and I'd like to swap it out for an air shock.

Search on here for more info and piccies of different solutions, or maybe people who have made them will chip in?

On the x56 bikes the "cone" was a separate piece (correct name is split collet) to fit onto an ODS shock as in the picture

Dimensions for the "cone" 

small dia =15mm
Large dia = 20mm
depth = 10mm plus 5mm above reducing down to 15mm again

Thanks for the detailed answer.
I am half way through fabing up an adapter without the "split collet", the new aluminium adapter will sit against the flush face of the end of the strut (without using the collet) and bolt through.
I will post a picture when completed.
