Help with removing rear shock(right now)!!
« on: July 20, 2003, 07:32:56 am »
Well i decided to do a little bike maintenance today.  I am trying to remove the rear shock to clean it up a bit.  I have the old world cup style frame. I removed the bolt that was under the seat tube.  I am trying to remove the second bolt pictured here:

i can't get that thing to budge.  am i doing something wrong?  (it has a label around it that says tighten to 150lbs....)

let me know ASAP

thanks (bike is sitting downstairs waiting for an answer)

well, i hope you did something inbetween today, kinda warm and muggy here (for SF Bay area)

get a 5mm hex wrench and turn it counter clockwise. that bolt there is what you need to remove.... it should be tightend to 150 INCH #'s and no more when you replace.

if you have taken the strut off of the swingarm, you'll need to hold it so the strut won't turn and you can lossen and remove the bolt and you will have a shock in your hand.

good luck

removing the shock might best be handled as follows:

remove wheel then,

1. remove the lower attaching bolt that attaches the shock to the strut.   the shock shaft should not spin but if it does, you may have to get a grip on it to hold it from spinning.

2. remove the upper bolt that attaches the shock to the seat area of the frame.

OP

(you can get a lot of work done without removing the shock tho)
