Risse Astro 5 problem

Is it normal to have oil coming out of the schrader valve when releasing air pressure from the shock?
Also when the pressure is set you can hear the oil 'squishing' through the shock for the first 8 -10 compressions, then it goes quiet.

Im going to answer my own question and guess NO. Reason being, I've just pushed the 5 way adjuster lever and bubbling oil came out of the lever shaft housing. I guess its passed its best before date....  Ah well, second hand buy lasted one ride. Felt good for a very short time.
As Im in UK Its probably not worth sending back for a rebuild but I'll get a price anyway.

Probably a simple o-ring. Or could be dirt stuck under o-ring.

Try opening and reloading with shock fluid. You unscrew the seal nut around the shaft(let the air out first), then empty and fill fluid until it reaches the top and replace the seal nut and shaft letting fluid flow over edge. I went from 10 to maybe 2 weight on mine.

Normally fluid leaks from the shaft, and that would be a seal. Beyond that I am a dummy.  :(

Ahh I shall go and investigate. I wasnt sure if you could take it apart easily. Ive emailed Risse to see if they do a rebuild kit to save sending it back as that would probably not be worth while on cost.

CVI in the UK used to be a dealer for Risse and do rebuilds. If you get good enough, there may be a market there for you. ;) ;)

You should see a doctor about that, shovelon. Don't be embarassed, I hear it happens to lots of guys your age.

Easy there!  Do you mind!  :D :D

I rang CVI on the off chance they would part with some advice,old spares or information in general. They simply said they they dont deal with Risse any more and ended the conversation. ah well.
Risse have replied to me saying ' It sounds like th o-rings on the IFP inside the resevior are leaking.'
It will cost $40 for a basis rebuild plus $24 return shipping, plus the cost of shipping to Risse from UK plus I guess a bit of customs tax when it arrives back in UK. So its got to be worth a look first.
Im going to strip it down tonight and have a look. I'll tell you what I find.

CVI are not there as regards to shocks , but they still answer their phone. not sure what they do now.

The shock is constructed in two halfs,the oil side of the shock and the air side. Ive got the shock partly appart but it needs special tooling to dismantle the air side. The large aluminium nut separates the oil gallery but then you need to split down the smaller diameter shaft of the shock which is the air gallery. This is the part which oil is leaking into via a worn out O ring. It seems to be a sort of peg spanner I will have to make. Same type of thing you use to change the disc on a mini grinder.
Im deep into a patio project at the moment ,but when I get a spare few hours I'll have another go.
