What's the word on the street regarding the K2 Proflex 3000?

I have a line on one and don't know much about it.

Confusingly, a 3000 can be either a x57 style bike, or a "two tube" Evo style bike.

see 1998 catalogue = x57 style on RHS

and real world examples:-




and 1999 catalogue = "two tube" / Evo style same as the 4000

either way a good bike, but horses for courses! the '98 is probably explicitly an XC bike whereas the '99 is maybe a bit more "all mountain" ? ? ?

FWIW.  I like my 3000.  (The picture of the polished aluminum one above is actually my bike.  )  I certainly have no complaints.

So which one is you bike, the '98 or '99?  I had a '98 2000 which was the same as the ''98 3000 but with cheaper parts, and I have a 5500 which I would think should be the same geometry the '99 3000.  I love both bikes, but I think I got along better with my 2000.  However I was 10 years and 35lbs lighter.  Both bike are some of the best climbing bikes ever, but they like to go fast when not climbing.  I keep forgetting the faster I go the better the bike works.  I just have to keep working on getting more steam from the engine room.

LOL...give it a few more years...I keep forgetting that the faster I go the worse I break things.  (More often parts of me than the 3000.)
