OZx XT 9/8 speed question
«

Ive nearly finished building my OZx but think I might have a problem. To be honest have never had anything 9 speed so didnt realise the chains were different between a 8 speed and a 9 speed. I have a XT M770 9 speed rear cassette which requires a narrow HG chain but I have a 8 speed XT 3 ring set up on the front. The rear cassette says HG chain only and the front chain rings say IG chain only.
Now as long as the pitch of the chain is the same and I run the narrow HG chain to fit the rear cassette, I cant see that it would make a difference.
Am I missing something ? Will it mess up the gear shifting on the front 3 rings if I run a HG chain on a IG ring?
Has anyone had any exprience of this?

My take is use the a 9 speed chain on the 9 speed cassette. Cranksets don't seem to matter as far as I can tell. If it bothers you, you can buy some thin shims to space out the chainrings if needed.

Thats what I thought (in a lot more words!). Ive got the chain to go with the cassette so I'll give it a go.
Thanks for that Terry.
