rim widths/ wheelsets?
« on: July 07, 2003, 01:33:02 pm »
I am looking into a new wheelset. I had a set of Sun Ryno lites that had a short life span (ten rides before another biker ran into my rear leaving it un-useable- not worth rebuilding). I put on a Mavic X223 set in the interm. I run WTB Motoraptor 2.4 tires. On the 22mm  X223 rim the ride feels a little unstable (tire roll?) Question #1- what size rim would be optimum for a 2.4" tire? #2 do I go w/ a machine built set or is it worth the extra money for a hand built set? If so who does good building @ a reasonable price? Thanx

Tire and Rim setup.

I've had good success with machine built wheels so no complaints.

If you want hand built, I've heard good things about these guys.

I got a set of Mavic 521 built running 2.35 Maxxis DH tyres and have found them to be bullitproof, can't remember what size they are but I did alot of looking around on the net and found that the 521s seemed to be the best option for strength verse weight. dmc
