New Guy with Proflex 455
« on: January 23, 2009, 01:15:54 am »
Hey Guys, I was brought here by someone over in the Socaltrailriders forum.

The names Jay, and I've owned my 455 for about 2 1/2 years now. I got it for $100 and I love every bit of it. I've gone every and this thing just keeps on going and i dont plan on getting rid of it. Although I do want to upgrade a few things. Brakes, forks, rear shock, things like that. I do have a few questions and hopefully they can be answered. Since I'm a student, I dont have much money. What are the cheapest but still good parts out there.

I hear  the rock shox dart 3 is a pretty good fork. Thats pretty much All i know I can get. As for the elastomer in the rear, I got rid of it and put in this solid spring that sucks. Is there anything else I can put in.

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

hi and welcome - if you're looking for a replacement for the elastomer/spring try www.rapiddescentscotland.co.uk,I can personally recommend them and Callum the owner is a regular on this forum.

Not sure about forks - lost track after about '99!!

I'll be posting a picture hopefully by tomorrow. I havent been home in awhile due to school. I want to get at least 110mm to 150mm travel up front.

I was also wondering, is there a way to just totally get rid of the elastomer...with a spring and damper

Is there any way to buy the damper or modify the mount?

they come up on Ebay from time to time. There are threads around here for modifying the cone mount to normal 'eye' type shocks if you have a look around. good luck.

Note: a 455 is not an x55 style bike, i.e. not a 755/855 etc

so I don't think that it has the cone fit shock, it has more like an "off-road" style older shock.

I think RDI (Callum) does replacement MCU's for the 455.
