mrp lrp on Evo
« on: June 27, 2003, 03:16:24 am »
I really like the LRP chain guide and am thinking of putting one on my Evo. Does anyone know if this requires any modification to the frame/bottom bracket/cranks. I am currently using a truvativ gigapipe isis bb with hussevelt cranks. I will obviously be removing the big chainring and using  the 34-24. Any comments on dropping the big ring? I think i only use when i need some extra speed going down on roads[ over taking cars] but i hardly use on trails. I find that i do drop the chain quite a bit Dh-ing, also i suppose there will be less chain slap.
Also with this set up and a 34-11 cassette will i be able to use a shorter cage xt der?

The short cage XT 9 speed is rated for the 11-34 cassette.

It should work fine with the stock 118(?) BB and no mods.

Also, Truvativ makes a 28/38 rings combo for there FR cranks, so you won't lose as much of the Big ring gearing for those dh sessions. Just remember if you swap rings you'll need a new bashguard the LRP only covers up to a 34, I'd suggest an Evil(E13) Supercharger Mtn X. Good luck

http://evilbikes.com/components.htm . Please forgive my ignorance I didn't realize that MRP makes an LRP that goes up to a 38t. Personally I would just buy the Evil DRS(pic) and call it a day. You can contact Truvativ about the rings if you have a hard time finding them @ 805-787-0917. Great guys and they sell direct.

MRP used to be pimp when they were the only game in town. But there is a new Big Dog on the prowl and it's EVIL!!! Peace.
