source for carbon sheet (disc adapter)
« on: June 23, 2003, 11:42:34 am »
hey guys,
a while back at least one of you was asking about a source for carbon fiber sheet stock from which to make a rear disc adapter.
well, I found a source. they are called West Coast Composites. here's the link:
http://www.wccomposites.com/
I just order a 3" x 5" piece of eighth inch thick 3k twill weave sheet. it has the classic carbon weave look, like the frame of the Oz/5500.
anyway, this piece is costing me $17.05 including shipping to the east coast.
when I get it and make the adapter, I'll take pics for you, don't worry.
in the meantime, have fun and let me know where the good trails are in Penn, ok?

1/8th of an inch is too thin......

We did testing with 1/4" and it was ok.. not great, very much flex. But still holding up.

Looks good though..

Take it easy,

Hammer

Hammer,
thanks for the info. I just figured carbon the same thickness as metal would work. wasn't thinking clearly, it (carbon) is lighter per volume, but one needs more of it for same strength. thanks for waking me up on that one.

Carbon mmmmmmmmmm.  looks great - but be careful it is thick enough because I'm sure we broke one.
