EVO pivot questions
« on: November 24, 2008, 10:42:45 pm »
What is the most productive way to remove the swingarm from my EVO 3.0.  Aluminum swingarm with hollow swing arm axle.  I was going to tap out the axle after loosening the pinch bolts, and then catch all of the bits???  But, I thought maybe there is a better way.

Does it have needle bearings?  Doesn't look like it, but all I have to compare is my Oz & 5000.

I was able to find the pdf file for 2000 Evo.  Looks like mine, but?

Any suggestions appreciated

Thanks

It is a needle bearing, so you should not have to worry. There was a thread about this a few months ago with aftermarket info. And someone in fact came up with a removal proceedure. I need to remove mine swingarm and regrease, so I was keen on the info.

I found the bearing procedure.  I pasted it below the link.

By the way, Terry, I rescued the 5000 frame and will be shipping out the frames today or tomorrow.

Here is the link: http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/index.php?topic=2003.0

The text and picture links:
"I have the same frame and I've done the changed out the bearings twice.  It's so much fun.

The bearings are Torrington #B1010

And here's how I removed them the last time I did it.

Items:
All thread rod
2 nuts
2 washers
A long socket of similar diameter that allow the all thread to pass through
A PVC Coupling w/inner diameter larger than the bearing

1. Slowly tighten until the bearing on the PVC side pops out
2. Disassemble and remove bearing and spacer
3. Reassemble to remove the final bearing.
4. Grease the new bearings and I'm sure you figure out the rest.

Items laid out:

Assembled:

Ready to push 'em out:
