Decoding Proflex serial number
« on: November 14, 2008, 09:05:03 pm »
I just acquired my second Proflex, the first was a 855. This one I don't quite know what model it is.

So my question is does anyone know of a web site that can help with decoding the serial number?

Hmmm, never gave serial # any thought. But I know it is a 1995, and have a hunch it was made in the states with 6061 alum(which is good).

Did I buy it from you?

Otherwise how would you know it is a 95?

Based on everything I have been able to dig up it appears to be a 856. I am curious so that I can get some new decals made up for it.

The bike came with a Girvin Vector 1 and yellow elastomer's (in remarkably good shape). It does not have ODS so I will likely replace the front and rear shocks with Noleen NR4's.

If anyone can offer up some help on determining the model number I would greatly appreciate it.

Hmmm, my detective skills need some brushing up. It couldn't be an 856 without the ODS, so it must be an 855.

Hi mootsguy, post some pics and we'll (in the vast knowledge of the forum) be able to help you you say your first was a 855 but your second must be a different style? post some pics and all will become clear! HAPPY DAYS! XXX

Sorry Mootsguy. I thought it was an 855, hence 1995.

So you are trying to get the model from the serial #?

Yes, pictures would tell all. I have never heard of a web site for serial #.

It turns out you may have been right after all. And yes I am trying to get the model number from the serial. There is a site that helps you decode Schwinn serial numbers and I thought that maybe there might be one for ProFlex as well.

Mootsguy, I'm hardly an expert on these bikes, but have the benefit of owning that exact bike with the decals intact. :) It's an 855, which as Terry pointed out, and I believe you had already concluded, makes it a '95.  Beautiful bike, I think I tracked that on on EBay several weeks ago. If you find some NR4s for it I might be interested in your elastomers.

Cheers,

Joel

Joel, I am thinking about using the elastomers on an 854 that I recently acquired in a trade. However if I don't use them on that bike I will let you know.

Thanks for the help all. Once I get it built back up I will post a photo or two.
