Riding buddy surprise...

Went riding with a friend of mine yesterday. He showed up on an old Gary Fisher hardtail with a fork from around 1998 and wearing a full spandex road bike outfit. Said he hadn't been mountain biking in quite a while. I was a little nervous bringing him along since the local trails are quite technical. As we started to ride, I noticed he had no problems whatsoever on even the biggest technical stuff. Turns out that he raced expert category on the Norba national circuit for several years "back in the day!" He was also involved in organizing several race series out west that are still ongoing (including the Intermountain Cup MTB races and the Tour of Utah road bike stage race).
