Stem / Part suggestion for proflex 2000 (x57). Help!
« on: June 22, 2008, 04:01:24 pm »
Hey guys.  I was the lucky bastard who won the auction on the mint proflex 2000.  It is like new.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&item=170

Unfortunatley for me during shipping, the stem, seatpost, seat, and pedals were lost...

Not a huge problem since I was probably going to upgrade those in time anyways.

I would like to retain the original geometry of the bike and was wondering but don't know what length and rise of stem I should use on this bike. It is a size SMALL if it matters at all...

Anyone have the answer?

That is a nice bike.

I am pretty sure that standard issue stem was 120mm length/6 degree rise.

Thanks for the info.  I'm thinking of going titec pluto.

By the way, does anyone know if the stem sizing differs between sizes?

Excuse my poor english lol.

What I mean is if stem sizes varies with proflex bike sizes. eg: small, medium, big, waybig.

In my parents garage somewhere is a stock stem for a MEDIUM 757, wondering if I can just transplant that stem on and get the proper geometry.

Thanks!

personally whatever came with the bike, stem size is such a personal thing - depends on what you find comfortable - see if you can try a few out.

i agree with orange, i would try a few out and not go with the original as back in the day it would probably have came with something far too long, it wouldnt surprise me if it came with a stem about 130mm long to get the flatback roadie position that was fashionable back then, personally i wouldnt go for a stem over 100mm long, but thats just my opinion.
an oz is for life , not just for xmas!
