Proflex 54 generation-Back Shock
« on: May 07, 2008, 10:04:08 am »
Hi!!  I have this bike for many years and I don't know much about it. It is dark purple and says proflex 54 generation. The yellow thing on the back shock(i think that is what it is called) has deteriorated. I have googled this bike but can't find any info on it. Can I just replace the yellow thing or do I need to buy a new shock. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. Lisa

Hi Lisacc.

There are a couple of  ways to deal with your rear shock. One is to get another elastomer. There may be some left at Iron Horse, or you can contact RDI Scotland for a replacement.

The other is to buy an upgrade from Risse Racing in California.

All depends on where you reside. If in Europe, I would go with RDI. If in Americas/States or Canada, or Austrailia and New Zealand, I would go with Risse.

I am not familiar with 54 generation model. A picture would deterine what kind of strut you have. There may be someone here with spare parts too.

Good Luck,

Yes Purple Gerbil that is the bike. I e-mailed RDi twice but they never e-mailed me back. I am not sure if the bike is worth replacing the shock.

I meant to say I e-mailed Rapid Descent. I am in the United Staes if anyone has any elastometers to sell. Thanks...

Lisa, I never got a response either from Rapid Descent. But in the meantime I was able to get some heavy duty rubber shock bushings from the auto parts store that got me by. There is a screw under the black plastic cap that holds the strut onto the back of the bike. Once removed the elastomer can come off. The rubber shock bushings cost me about $3.

After a while I did find solid urethane tube from McMaster that I now use. 60A durometer worked really good. Cost was about $15. You have to cut it to fit.

There is another source in England that just came to light. They make industrial bumpers in Yellow. The big issue is the exchange rate and shipping from Europe right now.

Thanks Terry for the other options. I will try them until I can find the elastometer. Lisa

try contacting Callum through his forum on his website at Rapiddescent rather than email, he states somewhere (can't remember where) he's more likely to get the message that way.
