I still love my eleven year old proflex xp8. gold and black uk limited edition!!! ;D. Firstly its rare and secondly its light weighing in at 23.90 lbs  which sounds heavy but its a way large frame so we are talking a 23-24 inch top tube length for starters.( i'm 6 foot 3).

I've specced it up with xt cranks ,  cross max ceramic coated wheels etc,   xtr derailleur/  brakes and ritchey wcs where poss.  The pic attached is mid way through so its a bit different in its final form but it will give you an idea of where its heading.

What do you think!! ??? ??? Does any one else still ride one of these as I have never seen anyone else on one.

My favourite would have to be my first... a XP-X  (x56½).  The XP series were an evolution of the 856 without the port for canti rear brake through the frame... and some extra gussets... sadly all the changes were for the worse and my XP-X cracked in about half a dozen places...

Was the best climber of all all my proflex's during the years...

XP-X (6 cracks in frame)
957 (2 or 3 cracks in frame)
857 (blue one, sold to a buddy)
Oz (959 hanging in my garage... underused)
Oz number 2.... got stolen... :-(

Prettiest proflex... Bill W's (carbon angus) 857 which he GAVE to me.... top guy....  (my GF's sweet ride)

Best allrounder... has to be the Carbon framed bikes though, still going strong after nearly 10 years....

Hammer.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum (was recommended to come here for info on my bike by Rapid-Descent Scotland).

I'd like to stick in a vote for my K2 Evo 3.0 (circa 2000)

I know it's a bit newer, and far from stock (i ditched the old noleen shock a fair while back in favour of a DT SSD air shock)

Anyway, here's a pic of it:

It's corrently stripped down to the metal and all the parts have been sold. I stripped it down to check for cracks as it was making some horrible noises. Turns out the upper shock-mount eyelet on the right hand side was ovalized. I thought the frame was gubbed, so i decided to sell all the parts and save for a new bike. However, i discovered that i could get oversize (8mm) hardware for my shock, and that i can drill the eyelet out to 8mm.
As soon as i get the new hardware i'm going to have the frame powdercoated and work on rebuilding it. Gonna take my time though, i reckon a frame as nice as that deserves good parts, and i'm gonna need to save for em!

Dang Speedfreak,

We speak the same language. That is an excellent observation, ovalizing of the non threaded eyelet. Good fix!

Good luck on your build.

Cheers dude,

I'm off to Canada for the season (working as a guide for ticket2ride BC), so i'll start building the K2 back up when i get back.

I'm thinking about getting it powdercoated bright orange, and kitting it out with black parts. I reckon it'll look pretty tasty.

Anyhoo, my shock hardware came into the shop today, so i'll be getting it drilled and powdercoated within the next couple of weeks.

Incidentaly, does anyone know where i can get the bushings which sit inside the main frame? (its wierd, not really a bushing, but more a series of rollers in a cage). I'll try and get some pics of the part i'm talking about either tonight or tomorrow.

When i start building it i'll put up a progress report. I'm planning it to be the ultimate all-rounder, here's an estimated build list:

fork:         RS Revelation 409 air u-turn
headset:   Chris King No Threadset
stem:       Thomson elite x4 stem- 80mm 31.8 clamp
bar:          Easton EC70 Monkeylite Riser Bar XC 31.8 hi-rise
cranks:      Shimano XT Hollowtech M760
hubs:        Hope Pro II
rims:         DT Swiss- EX 51.D
tubeless:   Stans No-Tubes kit
tyres:       Maxxis Crossmark UST 26x2.25
pedals:     Shimano M647
brakes:     Avid Juicy 7 185f/160r
cassette:  Shimano XT M770
shifters:    Sram X9 Trigger
mechs:     Sram X9 F&R (medium cage)
seatpost:  Thomson elite 27.2 layback
seatclamp: Hope Seatclamp
saddle:      SDG BelAir RL Ti

Those are standard needle bearings. A mention about removal and reinstallation was just touched upon in another thread. http://idriders.com/proflex/smf/index.php?topic=2895.0
