Anyone else try Syllamo in AR?
« on: August 12, 2007, 08:55:15 am »
Wow.  I can handle technical, and I can handle grueling uphill, but not both at the same time!  50 miles of singletrack in a very hilly national preserve?  Are you kidding me?

Some of those stretches were merciless.  Some were Tsali-like.  But the views were great!

If you get a chance, take your kayak on the white river (60 some odd degrees / 10' deep 5mph and as flat as a pankake) My dad dropped me in the Optimus landing and I parked my car about 10 miles down just past the fish camp.

My local trails in Fl are at the beach (with 12 miles of root infested kitty litter and 30 minutes away), 20 miles of Florida XC singletrack with a 1.15 hour drive, and IMBA Freeride south project Santos @ 2 hours south in Ocala (best in Fl if you have the time.)

Where / What are your local trails?

You have probably seen this before. This is one of my favorite trips. Mt. Pinos just north of Los Angeles, and about 45 minutes drive from my house. This trail goes up to the Condor Reserve observation point. The trail below is the MaGill trail that descends down the mountain for about 10 miles or so. We like to spend the weekend biking and hiking there.

The trailhead and camping area just behind the hut is also a sacred Chumash Indian ritual location.

Just off the trailhead going up are numerous rock locations, as modeled by my daughter.

On the way to the top are alpine meadows that are just at treeline(9000 feet elevation).

The view from at the top (9500 ft.?) overlooks the Mojave Desert.

Was there last weekend,
Terry

First weekend in November we've got a group headed for Arkansas to ride the Womble and the Ouchita trails. (2-3 hours North)

It should be nice and cool with a little altitude and lots of wildlife. The Ouchita trails can be really steep and full of "babyhead" rocks that are great for crushing rims.

Can't wait...
