Callum, you stud! Single speed nationals... yikes.
Yeah, I'm in the single speed nationals here... slow speed that is.
Anyhow, here's an attempt to show some pic's of the new "long travel" 856 SS.
Unfortunately, the "Insert Image" icon isn't doing anything... maybe you can surf to 'em...

Thanks O.
Friends, I gotta tell ya... this single speeding is GREAT.
Been riding every morning (back hurts too much to run these days.)
It's a great work out with lots of pedaling extremes. High cadence on the flats and some good stand up pumping on the uphills.
BTW, no derailleur problems either. EVER!
Yeeha!

Willem,
Your bike looks great, definitely puts mine to shame.
I ended up shelving the project for now, the rear shock started causing some issues (lateral movement) that it hadn't before, and the geometry of the bike felt really wrong with those forks (or is it the long stem??).
Front end really had no feeling, and the bike was feeling unbalanced so for now I have put the project aside.
Now I have seen your pics, I will definitely come back and look at it in the future and see if I can't make the proflex function as a singlespeed. For now though, until I sort the shock issue, neither the 955 or singlespeed 855 can be ridden.

Dog,
I rode the SS 856 again yesterday. Got a really nice 25 miles in before church.
This is the most fun I've had on a bike in a long time. It's like being a kid again, but with good brakes!
Basically I just use the bike to explore all over my town and ride up all the hills I can find. With a 5" fork I'm having fun doing some old guy urban assault. Jumping short retaining walls and the like.
Had a gas riding through some Mexican neighborhoods where they actually like bicyclists. Not sure what they were yelling, but it seemed encouraging...
Continuing to upgrade little bits here an there, but all things considered, single speed is just too cool.
