957 frame and fork

A while back a 957 frame and carbon crosslink were offered for sale on this forum. The original thread has gone - I assume as part of the anti-spam clear up.

Wanted to say that it all arrived today, well packaged and with good comms with seller. If you run across an ebay seller called 'yeshoney' he did what he said he would with this bike.

Just need to get it built up now. Standby for questions that you've all seen before!

Been researchimg parts to build up with - but need to sell m/cycle to fund (don't ride now since near death crash but had to try!)

What do people think shimano vs sram on the drivetrain and shimano vs avid on vbrakes?

Also are ceramic rims worth the extra dosh?

in my opinion id go for sram, ive got an x-9 equipped oz and an esp9 equipped xpx, and the shift is far better than any shimano ive tried, but thats my opinion and im sticking to it.

if you can get a~hold of some older XTR (24 speed) for the drive train and some Avid's..that would be my way to go for not a lot of $$$$. I don't have experience with SRAM but if it's better by voice here than jump on it.  as Terry says you will love the bike.

I don't think ceramic rims are worth it. I think that you will destroy the rim long before the sidewall. Also the pads are not cheap. But hey, if they were handed to you on a silver plater, then go for it. The best rims I know of right now are the stan's ztr 355. Less weight, strong, and no stainless eyelets(I am having cracking problems at the eyelet on my mavic 517/717s).

My take on drivetrain is used(cheap), go with 8 speed xtr. New go with sram xo(nice).

I can't copy that!

I have a mavic 217 ceramic rim which had to be replaced with the warranty as the ceramic coating fell of. The replacement is now propper for about 8 years or so.
additional I have spinergy spox from 2000 with ceramic rims.
6 years marathons, training and heavy tours in the alps couldn't scrap them.

Ok, the pads are more expensive but that's all.

I'd take them every time again.

I did not know that spinergy did ceramic coatings. That would be the one option I would have on mine, to lengthen the sidewall life.
