Just stumbled across this site whilst searching about shock upgardes for my 957.

Have done a search and could not find whether risse astro is best option to go for.

Is it also worth changing the standard shock on the carbon girvin forks?

Nice to find this place.  Wonder if there is a similar forum for manitou owners?

the risse is a great option if you do XC, the carbon x~links are great.

i'd keep the noleen nr up front, risse has a genesis but it's a pain to get valved right. Shovelon may give you some more pointers.

All I can tell you about the risse genesis for the crosslink is be prepared to tinker. Risse is great in that they really have bent backwards to meet my need for a super soft shock up front. Ask for the softest damping or have them valve for a 90 lb girl. Then you may want to switch from the stock 5 wt oil to maybe a 2 weight oil. I will be doing that and maybe a remote canister for a more linear rampup of the airspring. (I just love the look of the carbon crosslinks, and want to keep it vintage)

Or, I had heard that Nolleen shock service was selling rebuilts for $99.

The 957 is an amazing bike. I coupled mine with a swinger  3way on the back, and it is as fast as all getout.

You can use a swinger shock only with an adapter. Several people including myself has done this. The cone adapter is one way, reworking the strut is what I did.

Risse and Noleen are the only straight bolt-on shocks that I know of.
