856 derailleur hangers
« on: December 05, 2006, 10:45:32 am »
Anyone know of a source for them? I just straightened mine for the umpteenth time and it's probably not going to last much longer.

Check the Iron Horse K2/Proflex info thread at the intro page.  I just contacted them by phone the other day and ordered a few things including a derailleur hanger for my Proflex Beast GDT (1996).  The hanger was $19.99. I think you will need part #14492 but, if you have to, I believe you can make #59124 work also (may have to drill a small hole).  They are very similar.  The only difference is one (#14492) has a small hole drilled in it for a pin that is on some of the frames.  The person I was able to contact was Mike Lohmann at 1-800-645-5477 ext 215.  His e-mail is Mikel@worldwidecyclesupply.com.  Hope this helps!

I already emailed derailleurhangers.com, but haven't heard back yet.

I got a rather odd response from Mike @ Iron Horse:

"Derailleur hangers are not something we sell direct usually, if you need just the hanger I would visit the site: Derailleurhanger.com . If you are looking to buy the pivot rebuild kit for frame, RK002,  the cost on that kit 19.99 + shipping. If you order it, I can sell you a derailleur for 19.99."

So, it appears that they'll only sell a derailleur hanger if you order something else. Go figure...

That is a rather strange response.......here is the response I received when I e-mailed Iron Horse last week:

"here is what I have in stock and the prices
Rk002-19.99
Rk004-9.99
Rk006-9.99
14492 Hanger- 19.99
Rk005 girven vector II fork rebuild-9.99
We accept Visa or Master Card, all prices are without shipping. I will need your ship to addy and a phone #
Thank You

I had indicated in my original e-mail that I was interested in purchasing a few different items in addition to the derailleur hanger.  Maybe that is why I did not get the same response you did.  Most places are interested in taking your money no matter what!

Could you add descriptions for the parts listed?

I'll probably pick up the main swingarm pivots (RK002) and I'd like to get the pivot bushings for the strut too, but I don't know which of the listed parts is the right one.

I just received one each of the kits listed.  Here is a quick description of each:

RK002 - World Cup Frame Rebuild Kit - Contains flanged "bearings" for the main pivot and the lower strut.

RK004 - Cross-Link Seal Kit - Has all the shims, washers, seals, O-rings, etc. for all Girvin and Noleen Cross-Link forks.

RK005 - Vector 2/Girvin AL Seal Kit - Same as RK004 but it is for the Vector 2/Girvin AL forks.

RK006 - Linkage Fork Bearing Kit - Contains all the "sleeve bearings" for the Vector, Vector 2, Girvin AL, Girvin CL and Noleen Cross-Link forks.  (Looks like the pretty much all used the same "bearing sleeves".)

Each of the packages lists specific years but it appears that many of the fork parts are almost universal.  Hope this helps.  When I ordered they did not know if they had the #14492 derailleur hangers in stock any longer.  It looks like they are out of that one.  They sent the #59124 in its' place.  I will just need to drill a hole in it like I mentioned earlier.  My bike has the pin the goes through the hanger.  Hope this helps some.  Just be sure of which hanger you really need.  I was able to find pics of the correct hanger on the net before I purchased.  I was also able to search the net on the listed part numbers and found pretty good descriptions.

That helps a lot. I didn't realize that the RK002 kit included all the parts for the frame. Thanks again.

I am not sure, but I think that all pre 2000 replaceable hangers are interchangeable. So Evo hanger will work for 856.
