Whats it worth,Oz carbon arm, modified, brand new.
« on: April 05, 2006, 10:47:05 am »
Got a brand new carbon s/arm for a 4500 5500 Oz
never used,
pivot is already reamed out for my sealed bearing conversion (you all know about that,I've been sending a load of out details and drawings resently so there may be quite afew around now),
also with the s/arm a through shaft and the required shims, all that would be required are the 4 bearings,
easily found at a local bearing supplier and 2 hex flanged M8 X 20 or 25 bolts,
whats it worth anyone interested.

Simon.

PS Still got loads of bits and bobs if anyones interested, vector fork parts,855 main frame etc.

Oh Okay but don't blame me for boring you all with an off topic subject  ;),
Terry already knows the basic score here ::) but this is the full story.

First the Maverick front hub had a fair bit of play in it,
hadn't even riden it yet, contacted ATB the UK Whyte
supplier, next day new bearings arrived, when I went to fit them I found the problem was the axle
incorrectly machined, contact ATB again next day a new axle arrives, measured it same fault,

in the meantime

whilst admiring my bike I noticed one side of
the monocoque down near the front s/arm pivot appeared
to be dented or distorted,so contacted ATB again, thats not right take to your dealer and they will sort it and will also checkout the front hub,
so of to dealer (140mile round trip),
few days later the bikes ready, new frame and the play
in the hub sorted with a temp fix as ATB are awaiting
new axles to come in,appears to of been a faulty batch,
pick up bike very happy UNTIL
started fitting the customary cable rub patches I
notice a small flaw one side of the top tube, okay pretty minor but even my wife could see what I was getting at,I'm very anal when it comes to my bikes
they have to be perfect :P if I'd come off and scratched it or something then thats fine, but not when its brand new,
so contact ATB again, explain the fault and my desire not to have to travel to the dealer again (to far),
they say if I'm comfortable stripping it and boxing it up
they will collect and deliver from my home,
next day they collect it and 48hrs later (today) another new frame arrived this one is spot on even came
with a new set of cranks and not the used ones I'd
sent back with it (haven't yet got the hollowtech tool),
so VERY happy now and extremly impressed with the
warranty service just a shame quality inspection let
things down, monocoques are notoriously difficult to
manufacture and easily subjectable to distortion etc during manufacture, however this does appear to be
abit of a one off as I've contacted quite afew other owners and no one else appears to of had any issues
or I'm just way to fussy  [smiley=laughing.gif]
anyway do I regret my purchase, like HELL it such
a pleasure putting back together and can't wait to get another ride in.

Yes, that's a good outcome. Glad it worked out in the end. My Proflex 5000 came with the seat tube welded too low (it didn't even stick up above the seat "mast" high enough to fit the factory seat tube collar!) I was too excited to wait a few more weeks for Supergo to ship me a replacement, so I just ground it down (the weld was particularly thick, and I was careful not to create any stress risers). Still looks a little funny having exposed aluminium in the midst of all that yellow, but I don't really notice it much. The kicker was that I replaced the stock collar with a QR one shortly thereafter, and it would have fit without modification! Oh well...
